Just as a side note, this is very early in the season to have a fire here in N.C. Last year I was picking tomatoes until the 1st of December and didn't have a fire until mid November.

Well it only got up to about 55 today and it was 63 inside when I got home from work. It's suppose to go down into the lower 40s tonight and the upper 30s
over the weekend. I can't have a very big fire or I'll cook myself out of the place, but it sure is nice to be able to have a fire burning to warm it
up inside.

It is nice to be warm and at home, when it is dark and cold outside. Destruction of Family Results in Destruction of Society.

The weather is getting cooler here also. There is a chance of a frost tonight. This is a bit early for the low of 39. It might be a colder winter.

My prediction for winter this year is a very cold one. At least in my area. I also think we will get a decent amount of snow, but the cold will be VERY cold.
We'll see if I'm right or wrong come spring.

huh? what? ummmm.
None that anybody had to shovel. We like to mow up the leaves first. The radar showed snow on both sides of the river but not in the warmer river valley. Destruction of Family Results in Destruction of Society. |

We put in our den a propane heater that has fake logs in it . We have tried it out and everything is working well .
It has a blower , but still puts out a lot of heat without the blower on . http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200362091_200362091 Spot |

Know several people who havethe propane "fire" places. They work great, but do not leave any long term heat....when it gets turned off the heat goes
away. Doesn't seem to heat up the bricks.

The best part about the one that I have is if I run out of propane all I have to do is turn the propane off at the tank and inside the house and remove the
line going to the heater and get my som and son n law to bring back in my wood heater from my container and install the new pipes that I have put up and go out
wood looking behind the house.

No experience with fire ants so my ideas may be not good.
Put a moat around the firewood. Maybe made out of a tarp. Put the wood up on stilts and put the feet of the stilts in tuna cans of water or oil. No Link but I have heard of a way to dry fire wood very quickly using solar. No Link but I have hard of a way to stack firewood that drys it very quickly. Sort of a teepee is made with a tunnel in the middle. Destruction of Family Results in Destruction of Society. |
